Do you live in Herent? The municipality will reimburse up to 50% of the cost of waterproofing your basement.
Are you dealing with moisture entering your basement through the ground? You are not alone. Rising groundwater in a basement is a common problem, and the municipality of Herent provides financial assistance to help solve it. Find out below if you are eligible and how to apply for the grant.
Damp control premiums at regional level
Sometimes the groundwater level in the soil is higher than your basement floor. The water then finds its way inside through the floor or walls. This is known as seepage, and it causes a persistent moisture problem that can affect both your basement and the rest of your home.
If you have this problem fixed, the municipality of Herent can reimburse up to 50% of the costs, and in certain cases, even more.
Who is this grant for?
You can apply for the grant if you are:
- the owner, co-owner, tenant farmer, usufructuary, or holder of a building lease for the property;
- own a home, use a building for your profession, or own a building used by a group (such as a school, youth center, or residential care facility);
- live in or own a building located within the territory of Herent.
What conditions must you meet?
To be eligible, you must meet all of the following conditions:
- your basement is actually affected by groundwater seepage;
- your building was constructed legally, with the correct permit;
- you had the work carried out by a contractor who charges market-rate prices;
- you have the necessary permits for the work performed;
- if you requested technical advice from the municipality, you must follow this advice when carrying out the work;
- you submit a complete application, and do so on time.
How much is the grant?
By default, the municipality reimburses up to 50% of the costs, with a maximum of 5,000 euros per application and per building.
Do you have a lower income? Then you may be eligible for a higher percentage:
- Standard: up to 50%, max. 5,000 euros.
- Lowest income category: up to 80%, max. 5,000 euros.
- Second lowest income category: up to 65%, max. 5,000 euros.
You can combine this grant with other subsidies, but please note: together they may never cover more than 100% of the costs.
How do you apply for the grant?
You submit your subsidy application with a complete file. Make sure you collect all necessary documents, such as proof of the moisture problem, invoices for the work, and the required permits. An incomplete application will delay the processing of your request.
Has the work already been completed? Then pay attention to the submission deadline: the later you submit, the greater the risk that your application will no longer be admissible.
Are you unsure if your situation is eligible, or do you need help putting your file together? Please contact the municipality of Herent.
